Blue lagoon - Restaurant Review

Few restaurants have such polarizing reviews from users - many seem to love it and see it as a great VFM option at a convenient location while the others seem to have had experiences that can be best described as below par. Anyways, here's my two cents.

It's not so much about going in with a negative mental framework, but you're always half-expecting value / budget buffets to trip somewhere along the line. Sub-standard quality of food {especially paneer and meats}, not enough variety {definitely no sea-food at that price}, skimping on service of expensive meats, curries that aren't rich enough, etc.  I'm quite happy to say none of that goes around here.

So here's the deal: 4 veg. and 4 non-veg. starters served at the table to begin with. The veg. starters were cheese poppers, veg. cripsy, paneer tikka and tandoori potatoes. I loved the batter fried assorted veggies tossed in a sweet-spicy gravy, the paneer was soft and well-marinated and the tandoori potatoes were perfectly grilled. The non veg. starters platter consisted of mutton seekh kebabs, chicken tikka, fish fingers and chilli prawns. What i loved the most is that they use rawas and not that godawful thing called basa for their fish fingers so the dish actually has a pleasant fishy taste as opposed to making you feel as if you're chewing on a tasteless gelatinous blob. The chilli prawns were quite good too, thankfully bereft of a chilli overdose.

They also had a very decent hot & sour soup which would be nice in the winter. Seeing platters of vegetarian salads remind me that I'm denying some poor rabbit his food, so like i generally do, I passed this counter and headed for the mains, some of which looked great.

The mutton bhuna was a thick, rich gravy with chunks of soft boneless meat which tasted great with the butter naans served piping hot at the table. I also tried some paneer do pyaaza and dal makhni both of which were quite flavoursome. They also had chicken pasta with pesto sauce which tasted better than what you'd expect it to taste in a predominantly Indian buffet. On an earlier occasion they had the baruta {or was it burata?} pulao which is browned rice tossed with spices and fried onions. That pulao would be heavenly with the mutton gravy so if you get lucky with these dishes when you visit, you know exactly what to have.

The desserts are basic but effective and i ended a satisfying meal with gulaab jamuns with vanilla ice-cream.

The service was prompt and quick and it's nice to see hands-on owners on the floor making sure that everything goes off smoothly. I would imagine that this place will get popular for office parties, with the 'ladies who lunch' and families alike.

I also happened to check out their party room which is rather tastefully done-up. It can hold upto 125 pax and seemed perfect for small functions and parties.

Convenient location, great variety and quality at an unbeatable price......it's quite a package. Check it out!
