Uncle's Kitchen

I'm not really a fan of getting my food home delivered - I'd much rather eat out than order in - but on the rare occasion that I do, there are 3 criterion that must be fulfilled : the food should be Sasta, Sundar and Tikau {inexpensive, delicious and filling / sustainable}; I'm quite okay with the food not being very authentic at all and will even compromise a bit on quality {can't really expect very high standards at those prices} as long as it doesn't make me sick and I live to write a review. And on the few occasions that I've ordered from Uncle's Kitchen, the food here has always managed to satisfy.

I usually oscillate between one of their rice / noodle dishes - chicken hakka noodles, pad thai and triple schezwan rice. What I really love about these dishes is that the meat and vegetables to noodles ratio is excellent and you get a good crunch of veggies with every bite. The hakka noodles is exactly as it should be - well seasoned, good quality thin noodles with a generous amount of crispy vegetables and chicken and whats more, you can actually eat this all by itself without any sauces.

You'll also be reasonably happy with their pad thai unless you compare it to the one you had on your last trip to Thailand or Malaka's version which is way more pricier. Flat noodles, heaps of regular and exotic veggies and chicken, all tossed in a medium spicy sauce. Really good. Triple schezwan rice is probably my favourite sino-ludhianavi dish. It consists of regular or schezwan fried rice, chicken or veg. in schezwan sauce with some cripsy noodles tossed in for good measure. It's a dish championed by roadside chinese stalls and most restaurants can't seem to crack it because they try to make it classier. Wrong move. But no such problems here and the one i ate at Uncle's Kitchen reminded me of the fabulous dish i first ate at a roadside chinese stall in Santacruz {west}, Mumbai a few years back.

Even their chicken spring rolls are quite good and up to expectation. The only disappointment here was the Chicken in hot garlic sauce I'd ordered once. It was neither hot nor garlicky - just a cornflour thickened pink sauce with chicken which was just blah!

As is the case in most such joints, the portions sizes here are huge and a portion of hakka noodles is more than sufficient even for a good appetite. It is also quite possible that the restaurant may have perfectly good seating but I've always chosen to order in {pre-conceived notions, may be?}.

So check-out this place if you're around and want some good sino-ludhianavi. Think you'll like it.
