La Terrazza, the Italian fine dining restaurant at Hyatt Regency has now been transformed in to a more casual one in terms of decor and cuisine and part from the regular trattoria-style menu served, they have also started a set menu where diners can choose a 3 course meal from options like soups, salads, starters, mains and desserts. It's competitively prices at Rs.600/- + taxes {food only} and Rs.700/- + taxes {with a glass of wine}. The PuneFoodiez were invited to try out this set menu.
The meal started off with a Farro salad with walnuts, mushrooms and rocket leaves. While the addition of Farro in the salad was unique, the combination of walnuts, rocket and blue cheese in salads ought to be phased out because it's done to death now. Caprese and the seafood fritto miso accompanied by saffron mayo was again too safe a choice to impress us; which is not to say that it tasted bad but it surely lacked the 'Wow' factor.
While the pepperoni pizza was decent, the mushroom and goat cheese tortellini with porcini mushroom sauce was plain avoidable. The vol-au-vent with wild mushroom ragout was decent despite having an overwhelmingly similar taste as the tortellini - strange but true. Someone in the kitchen had clearly forgotten to account for the saltiness of the parma ham while seasoning the chicken breast fillet resulting in the Parma wrapped chicken breast being a tad too salty for my palate. Also, the chicken was rather dry and too tough to cut through.
Half-full plates of food being returned to the kitchen must've been an indication of the meal clearly not going as planned so the management deviated from the set menu and offered us a portion each of lamb meatballs and steak from the regular menu. The lamb, a dish of well flavoured and soft meatballs served with a traditional tomato sauce was really good and the steaks lived up to expectations - nothing more, nothing less.
It was the desserts, then, that were absolutely amazing. I'd tried the cassata on my previous visit to the restaurant for the Hardy's wine launch and loved it. This time apart from the cassata, we're also served tiramisu and classic cannoli, a deep fried pastry stuffed with ricotta and pistachios. I'd go as far as recommending you visit the restaurant for the cassata - it's one of the great desserts available in the city.
Otherwise, you can safely skip this one.
