Baba Ramdev Dhaba

'THE BEST DAL BAATI CHURMA IN TOWN' - This was the consensus across platforms and reviews when it comes to Baba Ramdev Restaurant. To clear the air, this restaurant has no connection with it's namesake Godman and instead of yoga and health sessions you're served-up ghee-laden deliciousness that's sure to leave you very happy.

The menu has an array of vegetarian Rajasthani and Punjabi delicacies, but since this is a place more popular for the former and especially Dal Baati Churma, we wasted no time in ordering the 3 highly recommended Dal Baatis - Rajwadi, Gulaabi & Panchratna. Before that we ordered for the masala khichiya which was fried papad with chopped onions and tomatoes. Almost similar to the regular masala papad except that the papad was mildly spiced and much thicker, something similar to Goa's Prawn Papads in feel.

The yellow dal in the Rajwadi and Gulaabi thaalis was almost similar with the difference being the accompaniments served with the thaali. While the Gulaabi came with baatis & dal only, the Rajwadi was a complete meal, loaded with papad, gatta kadhi and a piece of gulab jamun as well. Both the thaalis came with a rich yellow dal. But what I couldn't figure out was if the baatis were topped with ghee or was i served heaps of ghee with four baatis rolling in somewhere in the bowl. The baatis were perfect though - crispy crust with a soft and light center, providing the desired texture when you crush these, top it with dal and eat away. The gatta kadhi was lip-smacking as well.

Panchratna was a black dal with rajma but not as rich as the yellow dal and the baatis in this thaali didn't come soaked in ghee either. Clearly the option to stick to if 'artery clog' and 'heart-attack, heart-attack' aren't your favourite dinner games. However, if you're not a cholesterol patient, I suggest you stick to the Rajwadi or Gulaabi because this one though delicious, was not as good as the yellow dal. They also have chaas which you must try when you're there.

Which brings us to the desserts. They are a knock-out here - the gulab jamuns were warm and soft when served and the rabri was luscious and thankfully not very sweet as is available in some of the places.

This is a dhaba so there's not much of an ambiance and the service is super quick - we finished our meal in 35-40 minutes flat. It is the food then that is the absolute show-stealer...it's authentic, fresh, wholesome and very reasonably priced. Highly recommended!
